Transforming The Workforce

Meet some of our graduates who have inspirational stories to tell about how their lives have changed for the better since participating in the Job Readiness Journey.

“When you’re unemployed, there’s nothing to do but stand around on the street,” Africa recalls. “You can’t even go home because you don’t know where your next meal is going to come from. The Zanokhanyo Network taught me how to do my CV properly and I learned how to use a computer,” explains Africa. “I was told how to do an interview. I had no idea how important an interview was when looking for a job!”

Now Africa is doing an apprenticeship at Eco Furniture Design in Ottery and is well onhis way to becoming a skilled carpenter. “I’m learning how to turn wood into something beautiful,” Africa beams.

Orphaned as a teenager, Asanda left school in Grade 10 to get a job and support herself. But with no qualifications she wasn’t able to find work. Battling extreme poverty, she became increasingly despondent and desperate. Then someone told her about the Zanokhanyo Network and she signed up. Shortly after graduating she landed her first interview and was offered a job at a factory. Today she radiates with a renewed sense of hope.

“The Job Readiness programme has helped me to not only get this job, but to know how to manage my life and trust God too. For the first time in so long I have dreams. Not just little dreams; big, big dreams!”

“The Zanokhanyo Network has helped me to see the light and has given me hope”, says Nonkululeko. “When I came here it was life changing. I started out feeling like a bird that was broken, that could not fly. But I came every day and learned new things about myself and the world that empowered me to make a change. Now I feel like I am free and I can fly.”
